Overcoming Environmental Challenges with Innovative Design

Transformed a challenging Sunshine Beach courtyard into an award-winning tropical sanctuary, perfect for tranquility and yoga, amidst coastal conditions.

Nestled in Sunshine Beach, Earth Creation Landscapes took on an exhilarating project – transforming a small, neglected front courtyard reminiscent of a war zone into a serene tropical sanctuary.

This project was not just about landscaping; it was about creating a peaceful haven for yoga and tranquillity amidst a challenging environment.

The client’s vision was clear, and our team was poised to bring it to life.

Services Utilised

The transformation journey involved our comprehensive in-house landscape design process, beginning with the initial client consultation.

This included fine-tuning the initial design, meticulous project management, and precise construction execution. Post-completion, our garden maintenance division has been instrumental in continuously enhancing and preserving the client’s vision.

Challenges and Innovative Solutions

The property, predominantly occupied by the home, presented several environmental challenges – high salty winds, intense westerly sun, overshadowing from the home, and its location on a sand dune.

These factors significantly influenced our approach, especially in terms of plant selection and creating depth and privacy in limited spaces.

Corten Steel Retaining Wall

To create a sense of calmness and utilise space efficiently, we installed a Corten steel retaining wall.

Its narrow footprint and elegant sweeping curve were pivotal in crafting the courtyard’s serene atmosphere.

Strategic Plant Selection

Our choice of plants aimed to create privacy, give a sense of depth, and add a ‘wow’ factor to the courtyard.

The selection was carefully tailored to thrive in the tough coastal conditions and to transform the small space into a lush, tropical oasis.

Soil and Irrigation Overhaul

To ensure plant health and minimise maintenance, we replaced the existing soil with a special blend of Coir, Super Soil, and fertiliser, topped with Hoop Fines mulch.

The installation of an automatic irrigation system, consisting of Rainbird turf sprays, a smart controller, rain sensor, and Naan Dan Jain garden sprays, ensured every part of the garden received adequate water, despite access difficulties.

Recognitions and Final Thoughts

This project’s success was acknowledged by The Queensland Landscape Association, winning The Residential 1 Landscape of the Year award.

Despite the site’s size and environmental challenges, our team crafted a tropical sanctuary that resonates with calmness and beauty, a testament to our dedication and skill in landscape transformation.

The result is a tranquil space where anyone would love to engage in yoga, reflecting the essence of what a true sanctuary should be.
