Creating a Lush Oasis: Merging Durability with Aesthetics

Showcasing a harmonious blend of lush greenery and modern steel elements, this project transforms a stark space into a captivating jungle oasis in Noosa Heads.

We are delighted to present this beautiful feature in the landscape that aims to harmoniously blend with the existing structures while incorporating lush plantings and utilising steel elements.

By embracing the client’s vision of a jungle-like oasis from all angles, whilst maintaining the existing, harsh wall we knew that an intelligent design was essential for a successful project.

Our clients’ primary objective was to maintain the integrity of the existing structures while infusing lush plantings from all angles.

They expressed concern about the view from their upstairs balcony, desiring a softened backdrop rather than a harsh block wall or stone capping.

To ensure sustainability and cost-effectiveness, it was decided to retain the existing stone-clad wall as a backdrop to the new design.

To achieve the desired outcome, our design focused on three key elements: lush plantings, strategic use of steel, and softening the pool area.

By incorporating abundant greenery, we created the illusion of a tropical rainforest wall, providing a refreshing retreat from an existing harsh and dominating prison like structure.

We carefully selected a diverse range of tropical and native plants, foliage to create layers of texture, color, and height.

All the time, I kept in mind the harsh environment on that site, which was completely exposed to sun, wind, and driving rain. By incorporating plants from all angles, we transformed the garden into a lush and vibrant space, offering a sense of tranquility and natural beauty.

Understanding the client’s affinity for steel, we integrated Corten Steel into the landscape design due to its ability to hit its rust point then cease further leaching which was imperative due to its location next to the pool.

The combination of steel with lush greenery adds a contemporary touch while maintaining a harmonious balance between nature and modernity.

Addressing the client’s concern about the dark and heavy atmosphere around the pool, our design introduced softening elements.

By strategically placing cascading, trailing plants and ornamental grasses that can take the harsh environment we were able to soften the appearance of the grey stone-clad pool wall.

This transformation created a visually pleasing and inviting space, ideal for relaxation and entertainment.

As sustainability is a key consideration, our design maximised the use of existing structures, minimising wastage and disturbance to neighbours whilst reducing costs.

All the new elements work cohesively with the existing wall, a wall that was the source of a redesign and a complete change in construction techniques.

Unfortunately, once construction started it was clear that only random blocks in the wall were core filled.

Consequently, we redesigned the entire structure to be structurally independent of the existing wall. Our only option was to introduce six steel posts, chemset into the existing, combined pool/wall foundation.

These posts were then treated with Porters Liquid Iron and Instant Rust Paint to seamlessly blend with the rest of the structure.

Our landscape project offers a unique and captivating oasis that seamlessly integrates with the existing structures.

By incorporating lush plantings, utilizing steel elements, and softening the pool area, we transformed the space into a lush tropical paradise.

The design aligns with the client’s vision, emphasising sustainability and maximizing the potential of the existing structures.

We are confident that our project met and exceeded the client’s expectations, creating a harmonious retreat for them to enjoy for years to come.
